UDS Students Protest Fee Rise

In recent weeks, students at University for Development Studies (UDS) in the northern part of Ghana have threatened to hold a demonstration dubbed dubbed 'OCCUPY UDS DEMO' against the rise in their school fees (Academic Facility User Fees also known as AFUF) for the 2014/2015 academic year on social media websites, Facebook and twitter.

The students who have started discussion in 'UDS GOSSIP CRIB' group on Facebook have registered their immense displeasure about the astronomical hike in their Academic Facility User Fee (AFUF) for the 2014/2015 academic with several posts and comments of displeasure in the group. Most of the posts are directed to a call for an immediate consultation to be reach between the school authorities and the students representative council (SRC) for an amicable solution to reduce the AFUF drastically before school officially resumes.

The students threaten, in the events where no reasonable solution is reached, they would legitimately and peacefully demonstrate at the schools administration block and also hit the street to show their displeasure and make their grievances known publicly as proscribe by the Public Order Act 491 of 1994 as well as Article 21 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana against this cut throat AFUF.
