Despite moving
for French youngster Kurt Zouma in January, Jose Mourinho is yet to
replace David Luiz after the Brazilian moved to Paris St-Germain for
£50million.
The Blues have already splashed the
cash on the likes of Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis, but at a
press conference held earlier today, boss Mourinho refused to rule out
more new arrivals.
Benatia has developed into
one of the top centre-backs in Europe, attracting interest from new
United boss Louis Van Gaal, but according to reports in Italy, Sabatini
has jetted into the capital to discuss the transfer with Chelsea whlist
negotiating a deal for stiker Mattia Destro with Tottenham.
Van Gaal is
seeking to land a new defender after losing Nemanja Vidic and Rio
Ferdinand on free transfers, and wants Benatia to slot straight into his
new 3-5-2 formation.
However, it now appears
that Chelsea are in pole position to land the Moroccan international as
Mourinho prepares his side for their Premier League opener against
Burnley on Monday night.
The former Real Madrid
and Inter Milan manager finished last season without silverware, and is
determined to topple Manchester City for their domestic crown.
